Mubarak’s brace sends Ghana into last four
Ghana grounded out a 2-0 victory over Cape Verde on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to book a semi final place at the Orange Africa Cup of Nations , South Africa 2013.
A second half brace from substitute Wakasso Mubarak ensured the Black Stars avoid an upset set against the debutants who have been the surprise package of the tournament.
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah named an unchanged side from the team that thumped Niger three nil but the Black Stars failed to produce the spark in their previous game.
Mubarak Wakasso’s second half introduction changed the game for Ghana as he immediately struck home a penatlty for the Black Stars after Asamoah Gyan was brought down in the box by Carlitos.
Ghana held on the lead as Cape Verde pushed on for an equaliser without succes.
With Cape Verdean bodies forward to get the equaliser, Ghana broke forward in the last minute of extra time as Wakasso got his second of the game to undoubtedly seal Ghana’s place into the last four.
The Black Stars will now await the winner of the match between Burkina Faso and Togo while the Cape Verdeans return home having “over achieved” in their first Afcon participation.
