Ahly, Esperance renew rivalry in Champions League showdown
After a stalemate for both sides in their respective opening games, they will be heading into Saturday’s match with the aim of grabbing maximum points, which will make their intentions clear for the next round. Ahly in particular will be looking for revenge after their elimination in the hands of Esperance last year at the semi-final. Esperance who are just fresh from a domestic double triumph cut short their celebrations to concentrate for the game.
Club President, Hamdi Meddeb rates high the impact of enough preparation against the Egyptians, struggling search of the form that made them unconquerable few years ago. “We cannot celebrate a lot and now we have to focus on the match against Ahly. We have to prepare well for Ahly as our success will not be completed unless we win the Champions League title,” Meddeb was quoted by local daily, Assabah.
Ahly will be without their Mauritania-born striker Dominique Da Silva who has been ruled out due to injury as they struggle to overcome a poor away record which has seen them play two games without a win. On their part, Esperance boast of their players like Captain Oussama Darragi, Yannick N’djeng, Youssef Msakni, Khaled Korbi, Meji Traoui amongst others soaring to an all-time high.
