Barase saves Sofapaka from the jaw’s of defeat
The veteran striker headed home an Abdalla Juma cross four minutes after the restart to give Sofapaka its first win two games lifting them back to second on the log with 23 points, three shy of leaders AFC Leopards.
It also ensured that Sofapaka continued its mastery of the brewers having now beaten them five times in seven meetings. For Tusker, a second loss of the season saw them slide down to third with 22.
Despite a heavy downpour just before kickoff that saw players jog into the stadium after heavy traffic snarl up, the game lived up to its billing with each team hitting the woodwork twice while both keepers made a string of fine saves. Tusker came strongly in the last 10 minutes where they forced Sofapaka custodian Duncan Ochieng to make severfal acrobatric saves. The players went down on their knees wailing after the final whistle.
Having suffered back to back defeats, Sofapaka picked an ultra defensive line up with Musa Mudde, James Situma and John Njoroge providing a shield infront of the back four.
The brewers had the first chance but Duncan Ochieng made a fine save with his legs.
Sofapaka went up the other end and rattled the upright off a powerful Humphrey Mieno long range effort on 21 minutes.
Action was moving from end to end and Patrick Kagogo struck the upright at the other end on the volley two minutes later.
Mieno was in the mood and he forced another fine save from Oluoch on 62 minutes. There was however nothing Oluoch could do three minutes later as Njoroge’s side footed shot came back of the post.
