Douala-derby to kick start Cameroon League
The champions of Cameroon, Union of Douala kick start the new football season on Saturday against arch rivals Astres of Douala.
The game that will take place at the Douala Reunification stadium is set to launch the kick off of the second edition of the Cameroon Professional Football League.
The derby which shall oppose Union to Astre of Douala has an undertone of vengeance for the latter who suffered in the hands of the former during their two league games last season.
Union’s Coach Bonaventure Njongkep said he is aware of union’s desire to revenge and that he shall prepared his boys for the challenge.
“We are preparing serenely to play Saturday [against Astre]. … Astre is a team which we know very well. Last year there was a lot of tension during our two league games against them. We also know that they shall come for this match with a lot of vengeance and we shall prepare to that effect while bearing in mind that it is only a football game.” Njongkep said.
He also added that by Saturday they shall forget their status of champions and lay down their title which only the most resistant team would brandish at the end of the season.
On his part, Astre’s Coach Alexandre Belinga said he is ready for the long awaited duel even though some of his key players shall not make the match following injuries sustained in the past two weeks.
“My players are motivated and I hope that Saturday they shall play a great game. … I think the match shall be played with a lot of concentration as players of both sides shall be very motivated and I also think that nothing shall be left to chance.
“The last two weeks have been terrible for us because many of our players have sustained injuries. I hope that these players will get well soon so that we shall together form the best possible squad for Astres.
