FIFA U17 WC: Nigeria to confront Mexico in Group F opener
Nigeria are set to kick off their FIFA U17 World Cup campaign in group F this Saturday afternoon against title holders Mexico. The three-time winners of the event are amongst the four African countries present in the United Arab Emirates.
Nigeria are the most successful team in the competition’s history. But playing Mexico could be a hard nut to crack as the title holders would want to remake their history after the glory of the last two years. In their lone clash in 1987 in Canada, Mexico won 1-0 although it was the Nigerians who went through to the next stage by virtue of their superior goal difference. Speaking in an online interview, Nigeria coach Manu Garba has expressed total confidence in his squad for today’s game to kick off 2:00PM in the city of Al Ain City. Morocco and Tunisia recorded a positive start of the tournament yesterday after beating Croatia 3-1 and Venezuela 2-1 respectively in groups C and D. Meanwhile, Cote d’Ivoire fell to Italy 0-1 Thursday.
