Group D: Algeria coach expresses “huge sadness” on way out

It was an entertaining clash last night in Rustenburg between Algeria and group leaders, Ivory Coast.

Already eliminated from South Africa 2013, the Algerians wanted to save their pride by returning home with a win but their dream was narrowed down to just a draw (2-2). The Fennec Foxes were not far from achieving the goal as they led the game 2-0 before the Elephants leveled the scores. Algeria had two penalties but was able to score only one. Head coach, Vahid Halilhodzic appreciated their efforts against the favorites of the competition but was not satisfied with the final results. “Tonight, we were effective against the best team. However, we leave the tournament with huge sadness; this is not what we expected”, the coach lamented. After drawing 1-1 with Togo, Tunisia joined Algeria out of the tournament.
