Group stage: 11 wins, 12 draws, 49 goals
The group stage of the Orange Africa cup of nations 2013 ended yesterday with a record of 11 victories, 12 draws and 49 goals in all 24 matches played.
Described as the toughest amongst the other three, group D has emerged with the highest number of wins (4) and goals (15) against two draws. Twelve goals have been scored in group C with two wins and four draws. In group B we have had three draws, three wins and 11 goals as well as in group A where two wins and four draws have been recorded. The heaviest score so far has been Burkina Faso’s 4-0 thrash over Ethiopia last Friday at the Mbombela stadium. Out of the 16 participating nations, 8 have obviously made their way into the quarterfinal. It should be noted here that the last eight is made up of seven West African nations; South Africa being alone. The quarterfinal game pitting the Elephants of Ivory Coast against Nigeria will likely be the most challenging. Ghana will take on Cape Verde, while Togo play Burkina Faso with Mali confronting the hosts, South Africa.
