Harambee Stars squad for Malawi,Togo match is named
The surprise inclusion in the team is Thika United midfielder Clifton Miheso who is making his first appearance in the team. While naming the team at the Football kenya Federation (FKF) secretariat at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Deputy coach Yusuf Chippo announced that the team will start residential camp from monday at Nairobi’s Moi International Sports centre Kasarani.
Chippo however declined to name foreign based players saying there are making consultations before naming them on Tuesday next week.Traditionally, the foreign legion links up with them five days to the first international. The busy month will see Kenya host Malawi on June 1, travel to face Namibia a week later in World Cup qualifiers before clashing with Togo in Lome on June 16 in their Nation’s Cup return leg. France based AJ Auxerre striker DennisOliech withdrew from playing international football over a row on the use of his image by team sponsors Tusker. Concerted behind the scenes efforts have been going on to resolve the issue but the federation has not made any announcement of an outcome so far. Better news though is that Kenya number one Arnold Origi, who is based in Norway could be making his grand returnin the team.He had opted out of the African qualifying first leg tie against Togo in Nairobi on February 29. He disclosed that he may be available for the upcoming matches. “I cannot say for certain that I will be in the team because we will also be having club activities around that time. But I will know for certain when June arrives,” the Norway-based Origi said. Definitely out of the team is Inter Milan’s Parma loaned midfielder, McDonald Mariga. Mariga sustained a serious knee injury during a Serie A match two weeks ago and has been ruled out for the rest of the season. He will be remembered for walking out on the team at the 11th hour as they prepared to play Togo, demanding to be refunded about KSh1.5 million in air ticket fares. Stars won 2-1.
