Kenya: FIFA warns Oliech
The warning comes after the AJ Auxerre player threatens to boycott the Kenyan national team if one of KFK’s (Kenyan Football Federation) sponsors, East African Breweries Limited, did not stop exploiting his (Oliech) image for publicity.
The former Nantes attacker has demanded to be compensated by the brewery company without which he would not feature in the Harambee Stars squad.
The local press is said to quote of KFK’s spokespersons as saying that the terms of the contract signed between the KFK and the East African Breweries Limited gives the latter permission to use the image of the national team in its publicities but that they were negotiating a new contract that would allow both parties to benefit from the contract.
FIFA’s Director of legal affairs, Marcus Villiger has made it clear that if Oliech would attract disciplinary sanctions if he violates Appendix 1 of FIFA internal rules and regulations.
Harambee Stars would face the Squirrels of Togo June 26 in the race for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
