Kenya : Gor Mahia awarded abandoned match against Sony Sugar
Gor Mahia have every reason to smile yet again after a joint meeting between Football Kenya Federation(FKF) and Kenya Premier League(KPL) upheld the decision by FKF to award Gor Mahia maximum points of the abandoned premier league match played in Awendo.
According to a statement released by FKF after the joint meeting on Thursday, FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya said both parties agreed to award Gor Mahia the match.They urged Sony Sugar F.C to make an appeal if they so wish to the Appeals Board within 72 hours upon receiving the information.
Nyamweya insisted that the relationship between FKF and KPL remains strong and cordial and that the two will continue working together to cement their relationship for the good of the game.
The 1 September match went smoothly until the 85th minute when Gor Mahia’s David Owino scored to level the scores at 2-2.
Later, KPL found none of the two sides liable for the abandonment and ordered for the match to be replayed o Septeber 18 in Nakuru a decision that was bitterly protested by Gor Mahia prompting the federation to intervene.
After the confirmation, Gor have opened their lead against second-placed Sofapaka FC to eight points with 44 points.
Another decision is set to be made today(friday) where FKF will issue a ruling regarding the Gor Mahia versus AFC Leopards clash staged in the first leg that ended with Police throwing tear gas to cool down tempers .
