kenya National soccer team invited in Jamaica
The last time Kenya was involved in the match was few weeks ago when
the U23 beat Botswana 3-1 at Nyayo Stadium.
This is the first meeting between the two sides in their history. The
trip comes barely a day after the National Junior team(Kenya Under 20)
put up a gallant show away to settle to a barren draw with their
Egyptian counterpart in a crucial Africa Youth Championship staged on
sunday night in Cairo.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) confirmed that they have received an
invite but have not accepted or decline the request. They are expected
to decide on it on Monday and it is not clear if it’s the development
side or national team will play.
The match is billed to be a preparation for the Kenyan team currently
on the receiving end of fans’ outrage following their poor outing in
the World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Hence, they were eliminated from the African Cup of Nations by Togo
after registering 1-0 defeat in Lome and the National team have failed
to win a single match in their last four matches.
Kenya is currently ranked 125th on FIFA rankings while Jamaica are
63rd and this match will serve as an opportunity for Kenya to try and
climb up in rankings.
Kenya doesn’t have a national team coach at the moment following the
sacking of Francis Kimanzi who was appointed as Technical Director.
