Kenya Under 20 soccer team invited in South Africa
Consequently, Mathare United new tactician Stanley Okumbi has been appointed the head coach of the yet to be constituted National Under 20 national soccer team.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chairman in charge of Youth Hussein Terry while disclosing the new developments declined to name the squad though the newly appointed technical bench will be discharged with the selection of the team.
The technical bench will take charge of the team during their training stint ahead of the tourney whose expense will be fully catered for by the organizers.
The Mathare tactician who took over few weeks ago from Gabriel ‘Kingi”Njoroge will be assisted by former Kisumu Posta team manager George Ondula.
The other assistant tacticians are Yahya Hassan while Hillary Musundu will be the team manager. The team doctor is former Harambee Stars physiotherapist David Ndakalu
The technical bench is expected to name the squad in due course.
The trip to South Africa comes barely two months after the Kenya Under 23 team performed beyond expectations after they traveled for a similar invitation in Dakar Senegal without any prior preparation .
The team went down with a slim 1-0 loss to Senegal at the Leopold Sendar Senghor Stadium in Dakar.Senegal who used the match to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament scored their consolation goal through Papiss Demba Cisse who play’s in the German Bundesliga League..
Later, the Kenya youthful side coached by James Nandwa beat Guinea 1-0 in Conakry in another friendly match at the latter"s home ground.
