Lechantre gets Senegal coaching job
Lechantre has a rich experience in African football coaching as he guided the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to lift the African Cup of Nations and Olympic trophies in 2000. He has also coached Mali even though he registered little success with the team. He has equally coached in Qatar where he did his last job before accepting the Senegal job. The Senegal FA named the French coach, Lechantre, to replace Amara Traore who was sacked after failing to steer the Teranga Lions pass the group stage of the last African Cup of Nations competition. According to many football analysts, Senegal was one of the competition’s favourites before kick off but they lost all three group stage games, much to the dismal surprise of many. Lechantre has the uphill task of qualifying the Lions to the 2014 World Cup to be hosted by Brazil and the 2013 Afcon Cup. His first real challenge comes up June 2 as the Lions take on Liberia in the race for 2014 World Cup.
