Nigeria: Sunshine Stars, Ahly trapped in Mali

Ahly was in Mali to honour Stade Malien’s invitation while the Nigerian club, Sunshine Stars had a rendez-vous with Djoliba in the CAF Champions League tournament.

Host, Stade Malien edged visiting Ahly one goal to nothing while Sunshine and Stars drew 1-1.

Six players, two officials and two journalists all from the Nigerian camp planned to leave on Tuesday after a first group of players and officials had already left. They are trapped in the gunfire between government forces and the Malian rebels.

Tunde Shamsudeen, one of the trapped journalists says:

"The team may not leave for Nigeria due to sporadic shootings around the Aeroport International Airport, Bamako".
