Nigeria: Super Eagles goes talent search at home
Super Eagles’ assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi, has told the press that the technical has of the Nigerian football national team has decided to build a new squad made up of home-based players only.
To achieve this goal, scouts have been sent out to watch NPL league matches every weekend to spot talented players who would defend the colours of the national flag at international competitions.
"We are 150 million people and we have over 10 million of that population interested in football.
"So we are working to ensure that we get the best from the scouts that are usually all over the places when NPL games are being played,” Amokachi told SuperSport.com.
Meanwhile, officials are yet to clear doubts about the friendly encounter between Super Eagles and Azingo Nationale that is to take place in Gabon’s capital city, Libreville.
"The Eagles want to play and Gabon also want to play the issue has been the date.
"Both countries have crucial qualifiers coming up in the coming weeks and none of the them want to risk a qualifier for a friendly," said a Nigerian official, Ben Alaiya
