Côte D’Ivoire’s Lamouchi set to rest key players against Algeria
Côte D’Ivoire is the only team in the Orange African Cup of Nations 2013 to have gained their qualification before the last group games.
Being sure to finish first in Group D, Ivoirian Coach Sabri Lamouchi has said he is privileged to have the option of resting key players ahead of a tough second round against the Super Eagle of Nigeria.
“Nobody could imagine that at the end of our second game we would be the first of our group; this is quite a big relief. It is a great privileged to have the opportunity to rest key players when other teams are still compelled to fight for their qualification.” Lamouchi said.
For today’s match against Algeria, Lamouchi is expected to rest Drogba who is known to be decisive in key matches like the one coming up Saturday. Yaya Touré and Gervinho are likely to feature in today’s line up as they are in the race for the top scorer with two goals each behind Burkina Faso’s Alain Traoré with three goals.
Côte D’Ivoire would be relatively relaxed as Algeria’s only stake in today’s game is that of leaving South Africa with at least a point. Algeria’s race in the 29th AFCON ended when they went down 2-0 against Togo for a second successive defeat.
