South Africa : SAFA says Afcon hosting on track
The host cities were set to be known last Friday but the Local Organising Committee once more pushed the date to May 3 to allow for financial deliberations (with the cabinet)related to the cost of the event.
Speaking to KickOff.com, Safa Director of Communications Dominic Chimhavi says the process is necessary.
"We can play Afcon tomorrow because the facilities are there," said Chimhavi.
"The delaying of announcing the host cities will not affect the tournament.
"Government is getting involved to make sure that everything is organised. This tournament is going to be the biggest of its kind in Africa so we must respect Cabinet’s decision," he added.
Caf, who have been made aware of these developments, have agreed to the postponement.
