The Tunisian Football Federation has confirmed the appointment of Dutchman Ruud Krol as interim coach of the national team for a two-month deal.

His main goal would be to guide Tunisia during their two-legged tie in the upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers play offs against Cameroon.

He has been given permission t cumulate functions a head coach of Tunisia as well as CS Sfaxien during this period but the TFF, the sports ministry and CS Sfaxien would come to the negotiation table again should he qualify the team for the World Cup.

“We have identified Ruud Krol as coach of the national team. The new coach will be allowed to combine his position as head of the Carthage Eagles and CS Sfaxien during these two months. The next decision will be dependent on the qualification for the World Cup,” the Tunisia Football Federation said in a statement on its website.

He would be unveiled at the start of next week after consulting with the nnational technical director to chose his technical staff.

Krol would take over from Nabil Maaloul who stepped down after suffering a shock two nil loss to Cape Verde in the final group match of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

The result initially meant Tunisia were out and Cape Verde were through to the play offs of the World Cup qualifiers but a  FIFA ruling later sanctioned the island for fielding an ineligible player and Tunisia were sent through.

Krol won 83 caps for Holland between 1969 and 1983 as he played in the Dutch sides that finished second in the 1974 and 1978 World Cups.

Krol who led CS sfaxien to the Tunisian league title last season is experienced in African football after coaching Zamalek in Egypt and Orlando Pirates in South Africa.
