Uganda Cranes name squad for Rwanda trip
Uganda Revenue Authority(URA) stopper Simeon Masaba who was overlooked during the December Tusker senior Challenge Cup, has been considered yet again in the Uganda Cranes National soccer team that will face Rwanda’s Amavubi Stars on Wednesday Feb 6 at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Also back in the team is Kenya based Dan Sserunkuma who plays with
soccer giants Gor Mahia .
Sserunkuma is a house hold name back in Kenya and there were even
attempts last year to change the player’s citizenship .
The rumour trickled very fast in Uganda. In the process,Uganda Cranes
head coach Bobby Williamson was forced to recall him but the player
snubbed the offer claiming he wanted to concentrate with his Kenya
club that was facing stiff competition from League Champions Tusker
and AFC Leopards in the Kenya Premier League.
Sserunkuma, who has surprisingly made a U-turn back into the fold
was expected to join the 22-man team on Monday Feb 4th,one day after
the rest of the contingent started training ahead of the game in
Kigali, Rwanda on February 6.
The striker scored 17 goals in the KPL, one less than the eventual top
scorer, Sofapaka’s John Baraza though Sserunkuma got more than a
consolation by bagging the KPL Player of the Year award.
The speedy Sserunkuma will spearhead Ugabda Cranes attack along with
Tanzania-based pair of Hamis Kizza and Brian Umony.
The match is an official Fifa international friendly match that will count towards the Fifa monthly soccer rankings.
Rwanda Football Federation, Ferwafa will cater for Uganda Cranes’
bills for the game at the Amahoro Stadium.
