“We did our best”, Didier Six
The hawks of Togo have been eliminated from the Orange Africa cup of nations in South Africa following a 0-1 defeat against Burkina Faso last night at the Mbombela stadium in Nelspruit.
Despite the elimination, South Africa 2013 will remain in their records as the hawks were playing their first quarterfinal in seven entries in the tournament. After yesterday’s encounter in Nelspruit, Togo coach, Didier Six expressed total disappointment. However, he said they offered their best considering the history making advancement into the last eight. On the other hand, the Stallions of Burkina Faso will be playing their first semifinal out of home. They previously reached the last four in 1998 as hosts of the continental showpiece. Jonathan Pitroipa netted a powerful header last night in extra time to make them move close to the trophy. Stallions’ coach, Paul Put lauded his players’ fighting spirit. “We will go into the semifinal with confidence…everything is possible”, the coach stated. The semifinal takes place this Wednesday and Burkina Faso will play Ghana in Nelspruit while Mali and Nigeria meet in Durban.
