Egypt’s Morsi trial adjourned to May 17

The Criminal Court in Cairo has postponed to 17 May the trial of former President Mohamed Morsi and 34 other suspects affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood.The trial is over allegedly spying for foreign agencies, terrorism, funding terrorism, organizing military training and committing actions that destabilize the country.

Those on trial are accused of gathering with other members of extremist groups in Sinai for training on how to spread propaganda to serve the goals of the Muslim Brotherhood.

They were also accused of preparing to control the security establishments in Sinai and declare it an Islamic state in case Morsi did not win the presidential elections, according to investigations on Wednesday.

The other MB defendants include Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, his deputies Khairat al-Shater, Mahmoud Ezzat and former Speaker of Parliament Saad al-Katatny.

They also include leaders Mohamed al-Beltagy, Essam al-Erian and Saad al-Husseiny, former Chief of Staff Mohamed Refaa al-Tahtawy, his deputy Assad al-Sheika, the director of Morsy’s office Ahmed Abdel Aaty and 25 other members of the group.
