Fifteen B/Haram insurgents killed in Cameroon’s far north

Fifteen members the Boko Haram Islamist sect were killed in the Cameroonian locality of Achigachia (Far North), during a bloody skirmish with the Airborne Troop Battalion (BTAP) on Monday, according to security sources. Two of the militants were also reported captured by the local Self-Defence Committee as operations combing areas suspected of harbouring humas were still underway by the army in the late morning.

This halted jihadist offensive comes as Boko Haram killed three people, among them peasants in Madakar in the night of Sunday to Monday.

Madakar is another locality situated along the border with Nigeria.

For a month now, hardly a day passes without an offensive in the Far North of Cameroon by the sect, combining a deadly cocktail of suicide bombers, night raids and anti-personnel landmines.

According to government estimates, 1,098 civilians, 67 soldiers and three policemen were killed between 2013 and early 2016 after 315 raids by the insurgents.

12 mine accidents and 32 suicide attacks have been blamed on Boko Haram.
