Fire guts Niger Delta oil pipelines
A blazing fire which began on Saturday has gutted a network of pipelines belonging to the state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Adeje in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State in southwest of the country.
Some of the pipelines destroyed transport refined petroleum projects from Warri Refinery to the NNPC depot in Benin-City in Edo State.
The cause of the fire is not known yet, but the fire brigades are said to be battling it into Sunday.
Members of the Niger-Delta security Joint Task Force (JTF) are keeping guard to ensure that people with no business in the area are allowed to go near the fire.
Fires associated with pipeline vandalism and petroleum products theft had been reported in the past in Adeje and the surrounding communities in the Niger Delta area.
