Kamuzu Stadium to resume international matches
The world football body FIFA has given Malawi’s multi-purpose Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre a nod to host international games, according to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).FAM Executive Director Suzgo Nyirenda said in the commercial city of Blantyre on Wednesday that the 60,000-seat stadium was closed for some months due to cracks on the terraces.
“We are pleased to announce that the stadium can now be used after an authorisation from our mother body, FIFA,” he said.
Nyirenda said FIFA will be sending the security personnel to all international games which will be played at the stadium.
The first international game will pit Malawi against Namibia to be held in June.
