Zuma cancels Mozambique trip after visiting ailing Mandela in hospital
South African President Jacob Zuma on Thursday cancelled his trip to Mozambique after visiting critically ill anti-Apartheid icon and former President Nelson Mandela in hospital, APA learns here.
Reports from South Africa say Zuma went to see the 94-year-old Mandela on Wednesday evening and found him to still be in a critical condition, prompting him to cancel a planned trip to Mozambique where he was to attend a regional investment conference.
Nelson Mandela is fighting for his life in a Pretoria hospital since 8 June where is being treated for what the government said was a recurring lung infection.
Meanwhile, Mozambican President Armando Guebuza has wished Mandela a speedy recovery and said the whole world is praying.
“We wish to take this opportunity to wish Comrade Nelson Mandela a speedy recovery in the comfort of all South Africans, the region and the world in general and we hope that he gets well soon,” Guebuza said on addressing the opening ceremony of the region’s two day investment conference in Maputo.
