Cycling / Tropicale Amissa Bongo : Two Africans on the final podium

Copyright : Panoramic
As in the two previouc editions, Frenchman Antony Charteau from Team Europcar won the Tropicale Amissa Bongo. Though an African did not win this edition, a good report sheet can be submitted of the participation of African cyclists.
In fact, this edition will go down memory lane as a historic Tropicale Amissa tour. Two African cyclists finished on the podium after the last lap, the first of its kind in the history of the competition. It is worthy to recall that Erythrea’s Meron Russom is the first African to have led the general standings. He kept the yellow jersey on his shoulders for two laps, the third and fourth. Worthy to note the presence of five Africans in the Top ten. The best youngster is Nikita Umerbekov from Kazhakstan, followed by Morocco’s Reda Aadel.
