Dubai Marathon: Ethiopians hailed supreme in Dubai

Ethiopian athletes were hailed by fans at the Dubai Marathon as the podium was dominated by four Ethiopians. Lelisa Desisa finished first in 2:04.05 ahead of three of his compatriots — Berhanu Shiferaw (2:04.48), Tadese Tola (2:04.49) and Endeshaw Negesse (2:04.23).

Bernard Koechi of Kenya was left with a consolatory fifth place as he came 2:04.53 after the Ethiopian party.

In the women’s category, a five-woman train thrilled the crowd to a wow performance as Tirfi Tsgaye crossed the finish line in 2:23.23. She was joined at the podium by Ehitu Kiros (2: 23.39) and three others, Amane Gobena (2:23.50), Aghezza Kiros (2:24.30) and Belaynesh Oljira (2:25.01).

The Dubai Marathon is one of the most competitive races in the last ten years as it has seen five athletes running below the 2:05 mark.
