Nike boost Kenya schools with running spikes
The 770 pairs of spikes were given through the local athletics governing body Athletics Kenya (AK) to the Ministry of Education to be distributed to various Schools and Institutions affiliated to AK across the country as a way of promoting athletics in the Kenya from the grassroots.
AK chairman Isaiah Kiplagat said that the donation will help in nurturing talent from the grass root to add up to Kenya’s athletic prowess in the future.
” We have been working closely with the Ministry of Education to develop youth athletics and today we donate to the spikes that will help in the development of young talents in School and institution,” said Kiplagat.
Kiplagat said that AK will push the committee in charge of Kids athletics to come up with the programme before the end of the year adding that Kenya is lugging behind in embracing kids athletics whereas countries such as Uganda and Sudan have so far adopted the programme in their systems.
“We have not pushed for the kids programme and we want to role out the programme mid this year and hoping to cover the whole country by the end of the year,’ added Kiplagat.
Kilagat also revealed the AK has invited International Association of Athletics Federation -IAAF head of Kids athletics to Kenya to roll out the programme in May this year.
He was speaking at the Nairobi’s Athletics Kenya headquarters ( Riadha house )where he handed the athletics kits to Amos Oyaya, Quality Assurance Director in the Ministry of Education who is also in charge of co-curriculum activities.
