RWANDA is bidding to host the 2013 African Junior Athletics
championship .Their request will be on top of the agenda during the
African Athletics Confederation assembly in Benin, this weekend, ahead
of the African Athletics Championships.
Rwanda National Athletics Federation’s Jean Damascène Nkezabo
disclosed that Rwanda is currently the only country that has shown
interest in staging the event.

Nkezabo and the Director of Sports Federations in the Ministry of
Sports, Emmanuel Bugingo, will attend the convention to defend
Rwanda’s bid.

According to the Rwanda Secretary General of the Athletics
Federations Johnson Rukundo, the country has the capacity to host the
event.

“ I can put it clear that we have met all the required
conditions.Rwanda is capable of hosting the Africa Junior Athletics
Championship. I have confidence we shall be allocated that slot” said
Rukundo in Kigali, Rwanda.
He said with financial backing from Rwanda government,, he was
optimistic they will host the event since they have good facilities
that include good hotels, stadia, security and communication

Should Rwanda get the nod to host the glamour event,it will be the
first time for the country to host.It will also mark a big milestone
in the chaotic Athletics federation which has been a beehive of
embezzlement of funds, wrangling and poor leadership for the last few
years.
