Tennis – Davis Cup: Egypt, Morocco qualify for 2014 E/A zone group II
Egypt and Morocco have secured their place for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa zone Group II for 2014 as they successfully went through their play-offs against Zimbabwe and Madagascar over the weekend.
Morocco’s Yoounes Rachidi and Mehdi Zaidi defeated Rakotondramanga and Tony Rajaobelina of Madagascar to make their way. In the other play-off, the Zimbabwe Davis Cup team went down fighting when they lost 2-1 to the host Egypt Saturday at the Smash Tennis Academy in Cairo. In the classification play-offs, Algeria beat Namibia 2-1while Ghana defeated Nigeria 2-1.The two winners tied for 5th and the losers tied for 7th.
On their part, Cameroon defeated Rwanda 3-0 and Botswana defeated Kenya 2-1 so Cameroon and Botswana ended the event tied in 9th place, with Rwanda and Kenya tied in 11th. Zambia finished first from bottom.
