Uganda: Kalule optimistic Bogere would win World title
Ugandan boxing legend, Ayub Kalule, says Sharif Bogere can beat Cuban boxer, Richard Abril in a World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight boxing contest billed for March 3.
In the former world champion’s opinion, Bogere’s advantage lies in the fact that “The Lion” as the 24-year old boxer is popularly known, would not be fighting against an American.
“The fact that he’s fighting a non-American is already an advantage, it’s difficult to win against an American in the US because they [Americans] control everything from referee to judges to glove and ring size,” came the statement from local news organ, The Observer.
the Ugadan younster, at the height of his career, has already blazed an interesting trail since he came to the lime light in 2008 with 23 out of 23 fights won including 15 knockouts.
The young boxer has released a statement on his level of fitness and preparedness ahead of the March bout.
I am mentally and physically fit for Abril. The belt is coming home,” he said over the weekend.
Bogere is about to become the second boxer from Uganda to win a WBA world title after Kalule defeated Japanese Light Middleweight champ in 1979 in the latter’s home town.
