The 2026 World Cup could be historic for the African continent. In fact, press reports have been announcing that the presidents of the African federations have asked the international federation to get 10 spots in that World Cup : Meaning that the number of African national teams could be doubled in that edition.

According to “L’Equipe” magazine, the Confederation of African Football tried to benefit from Infantino‘s presence in South Africa to let him know about this wish. The 2026 World Cup will include 48 national teams for the first time since the beginning of the competition.

The president of the South African federation told the press: “All the African federations support this idea and we hope that FIFA will help us to make that dream come true”.
