Andres Iniesta is one of the best midfielders and why not, footballers, to have ever played the game. At the age of 33, he is still a very good player when he is fully fit, but unfortunately, it has not been so often in the recent past. Last season, the Veteran midfielder, if u may, didn’t play so many games because he was either injured or was being reserved for big games due to fear of injury. And with the start of this new season, it looks like the trend will continue.

According to reports from Spain and ESPN, Andres Iniesta is set to miss out the return leg of the Super Cup classico later on today due to a thigh injury. But with this bad news, we try to see what it could mean for Barcelona and Sergi Roberto.

Sergi Roberto came through La Masia too and has not really been given the confident in his preferred position and the 25-year old seem to be unhappy and unsettled at the Cam Nou, especially with the recent signing of Paulinho. He knows it directly means he won’t be given enough chance again this season and with offers on the table he might be tempted to leave.

But things could all change after today’s game as Roberto could be played in for Iniesta. If this happens, the versatile midfielder could prove to the coach and team just how valuable he is. Even though it will be very difficult to turn 3-1 deficit, a good display from Sergi Roberto could help him cement his position at the midfield or at least bargain for more chance.

Barcelona has also been closely linked with Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho and if they are to come, the competition at the midfield will get more intense and this could be the end of Iniesta in Barcelona and the beginning of a new era.
