Bayern Munich completed the signing of Lyon midfielder, Corentin Tolisso for a reported 41.5 million Euros. This means their rivals Chelsea, will have to look somewhere else for a midfielder. Earlier in the season, the 22-year old had even rejected a 37.5 million bid from Napoli, and said he was very interested in his club’s new project.
In general, Corentin Tolisso had an amazing 2016/17 season as he scored 14 times in all competitions. He was even named in the UEFA Europa League squad of the season. As a player, the French International is very versatile as he has played in several positions for Lyon including right-back, his normal midfield role and sometimes a shadow striker. No wander the Bundesliga Champions spent such a hefty sum for him.
He departs Lyon after spending about 10 years of his life with them. Tolisso moved from the second to the first team in 2013 and has been improving ever since. He expressed his feelings on the Bayern Munich website by saying…“I had a wonderful time at Lyon, and I’m very thankful for that. Now I’m really pleased to be at one of the best clubs in Europe. I have great aims for my time at FC Bayern. Today is a great day for me.”
Now with the already powerful squad depth which the German side has, Tolisso will definitely have to be impressive to cement his position at the club. But with the departure of Xabi Alonso, maybe that is the main reason why they wanted the services of the French versatile man.
