Ernesto Valverde arrived Barcelona earlier this summer, and has been influential in some decisions so far in the transfer market. One of the major decisions which the coach is credited to have made is keeping Andres Iniesta at the club, as the board were reportedly willing to let him go this summer.

The club has been heavily linked with a move for Marco Verratti, but now it is looking very unlikely that they will get the signature of the Italian star, as the club owner of PSG has blatantly refused to let him go. But Valverde still has some hopes amidst rumours of a swap deal which could involve either Ivan Rakitic or Andre Gomes and a fee of about 65 million in exchange for Verratti. But the coach has stated he is interested in securing the 14-year old, but not willing to let his players go.

Ernesto Valverde had this to say at a recent press conference…”They (Rakitic and Gomes) are my players and I consider them in my plans. Obviously we’ve had discussions but to ask for ‘this player’, no. For me, the best signings are those who are in my team.”

He went further…”If it happens, then that would be great. The club is working hard for the squad to have the best players. But my idea is always to work with the players in my squad.”

“I have almost the best squad possible anyway. It’s very difficult to make it better, because of the high standard of players that we have. It’s difficult to improve what’s in the team. There are always a lot of names and the summer is long, but for me the important thing is to get the best form out of my players.

“We’re not closed to any options until the last day but I think that’s the same for any club.”
