Jorge Sampaoli who spent just one year at Sevilla and finished 4th in the league has reportedly agreed to coach Argentina next. He had a very successful start of the 2016/2017 campaign with the club, but ran out of steam towards the end of the year.
This move could be an interesting one because even Lionel Messi in the past has endorsed him for both the Barcelona and Argentina jobs. Jorge Sampaoli has described his appointment as a dream job, and it means he will finally have the opportunity to coach his country.
After the 2-0 defeat to Bolivia, Edgardo Bauza was sacked just after serving 8 months with Argentina. Presently, Argentina are 5th in the world-cup qualification round and this means they won’t qualify automatically if they remain in that position.
Now the 57-year old has a hard task ahead of him to win Argentina’s remaining games and qualify automatically for the World cup. From his past record with Chile, which saw him beat Argentina to claim the Copa America title in 2015, it is safe to say that he will be successful.
Argentina’s squad has already been named for the friendly matches against their arch rivals Brazil and Singapore. The list is believed by many to have been inspired by Sampaoli, and it is likely that he will be the coach for these two games.
