The much anticipated UEFA Super Cup was played on Tuesday in Macedonia and Real Madrid proved that they are not ready to give up the fine spirit they ended last season with. Many had started feeling that the white house will let their foot off the gas this season, as their pre-season was not that promising. But they showed to the world just how serious they could get when it mattered most.
In a game dominated by Real Madrid, Manchester United also had some clear-cut chances which could have altered the results in another direction or at least could have given more dynamics to the game. Romelu Lukaku and Marcos Rashford both missed some very vital goals. But apart from that, Real Madrid looked the better side almost all through the game.
The midfield trio of Casimero, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos proved once more why they are considered the best at the moment as they outclassed a midfield of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic.
Well, even though the saying “all that starts well, ends well” is not always true, the one thing which is certain is that when things start well, it is easier to continue in that spirit because of the confidence and trust which is built, especially in football.
The win over Manchester United to claim the Super Cup trophy will be a big boost for Real Madrid as the season is on the way. As for Manchester United, it could be a cause for concern as they have already brought in some big names to help them this season. But most importantly, the defeat could instead be a lesson to the Reds to make them better prepared as they head into the Premier League this weekend.
