Sergi Roberto could leave Barcelona due to the lack of confidence shown to him

La Masia has always produced the best midfielders for Barcelona and they could be at the verge of missing out on one of them. Sergi Roberto is a graduate from the Barcelona academy and haven’t really been given his fair share of opportunity to shine like the likes of Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta. And now, the midfielder could leave the Cam Nou for the Premier League or even the Serie A.

Sergi Roberto has a release clause which according to the market value of today, is really small… just 40 million euros. This would make it very easy for clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus who have shown interest in him to pay. With the experience, skills, and level of versatility, the Spanish International would be fit for most teams and could excel even beyond imagination.

Sergi has mostly been used out of place by Luis Enrique. Last season saw the 25-year old play mostly as a right back, and even though it is not his preferred position, he still put on some brilliant performances. With the buying of Nelson Semedo, Roberto was sure to return to the midfield.

But now, he is worried the coach won’t give him enough playtime, especially with the coming of Paulinho and more so as the club is still rumored to be looking for new additions. During Sunday’s classico loss, Roberto only came in as the second sub after Denis Suarez and many were surprised as they thought he would even make the starting line-up. it was even alleged that Barcelona were ready to involve him in a swap deal with Chelsea, to get Eden Hazard.

With the look of things, Barcelona are gradually losing their “tiki-taka DNA”, which helped them dominate Europe for so long, and with the sale of Roberto, is there any hope left?
