Nigeria interim coach, Samson Siasia, revealed the reasons why former Super Eagles’ captain, Vincent Enyeama, declained his invitation for the upcoming 2017 Orange AFCON qualifier against Egypt.
Siasia reached out to the Lille goalkeeper and tried to convince him to get back to the Nigeria squad after he has been left out by the former Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh but the 33-year-old requested to be left out for now, stressing that he is still emotionally down over the treatment he received from the NFF and oliseh.
“I called Enyeama a couple of days ago, when they asked us to come and handle these two games, I told him how I needed him for the games and I wanted him to come back and be a part of this team. He explained to me how he was treated by the NFF and Oliseh. He explained how he drove from Lille to Belgium to meet the coach after his mum’s burial and was totally embarrassed with harsh words and taking the captain’s band away from him.” explained Siaisia.
“He told me he would have wanted to play for me, but emotionally he is still down and has not gotten over that treatment from the former coach.”
“I thanked him for his time and noted that the door is still open for him to be part of the Super Eagles. Whenever he overcomes his feelings, he should let me know.”
Siasia has already announced a 42-man-list for the upcoming double-header qualifier against the Pharaohs scheduled on March 24th in Kaduna and March 29th in Egypt.
