Cameroon duo Samuel Eto’o and Alexander Song are unlikely to be match fit when the Indomitable Lions face Tanzania in an international friendly on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam.
Eto’o, 31, was hauled off the pitch with a back injury on Saturday during his side’s (Anzhi Makkhackala) 2-2 friendly draw against Ukranian side Dynamo Kiev.
The Indomitable Lions skipper is unlikely to recover in time for Wednesday’s friendly after doctors of his Russian club confirmed he will sit out training for the next few days.
On the other hand, Alex Song is set to miss the game as a precautionary measure taken by his Spanish side Fc Barcelona who reported the player has a slight knee knock.
The 25-year old is now unlikely to join the team that would assemble in Tanzania on Monday, according to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).
Head Coach Jean Paul Akono and his technical staff would on their part jet into Tanzania today, from South Africa where they have been watching the 2013 Orange Africa Cup of Nations.
The Cameroon contingent will be arriving in batches from different parts of the world.
Achille Emana of Al Ahly (UAE), Valencienne striker, Vincent Aboubakar and goalkeeper, Charles Itandje, who plays in Greece, including former Lion and now team manager, Rigobert Song, are already in Tanzania .
The February 6 international friendly will enable both teams warm up for their respective upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers in March which will see Tanzania take on the Atlas Lions of Morocco while Cameroon will face Togo.
