Zinedine Zidane has proven again and again that he is made for football, no matter the role, and more so, for Real Madrid. Whether as a player, an assistant coach or a coach, the French icon has proven to be one of the most valuable assets they have ever had.
During the Super Cup clash with arch rivals, Barcelona, Zinedine Zidane set 2 different sides during both games which many wouldn’t consider the best side, but it just went to show what a coaching genius he is.
During the first leg, the Madrid coach rested Cristiano Ronaldo who didn’t participate in their pre-season, because he was given extra time for vacation, and only put him in the second half of the game. The change was effective as he scored to put his side 2-1 up before coming off with a red card. Also Luka Modric was not available for the tie because of suspension. At the end, Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 with 10 men.
During the return leg, Zidane decided to keep Isco on the bench who was arguably the best player at the Cam Nou. He also started the game without Bale and Casemiro, and decided to go with youngsters of Ascensio, Vasquez and Kovacic who were all sensational. And with this, Zidane’s side dominated the game and even had more possession…something which we can’t remember the last time a Madrid side did against Barcelona.
Say all you want, but one thing is for sure, Zinedine Zidane has cemented his position as a true Madrid great and many could even start bringing up the argument, he is the best ever. With the way his side is going now, there is hardly any side in Europe that could stop them. Their recent defeat against Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup is also another example of their strength.
